The Istana Kampong Gelam is nine galleries on two floors. This
building tells the story of the Malays of Singapore and their
beginnings, aspirations, triumphs
over adversity and the role the
Malays have played in the nations building process. In the Malaya
Heritage Centre's the cultural programs offered to show the culture,
and the many blends of dance, music and literature that make their
lives so fruitful in their beliefs.
Many visitors enjoy the rich colours and traditions of the Malay
customs. They can also perform in the Angklung and learn the Malay
dance steps and gestures used in the ritual. The centre is Singapore's
way of educating the public on the beauty of its culture and the
beliefs of its residents.
