Singapore Orchard Road, our Shopper's Paradise
Let us take you in our Limosuine cab or Maxi cab to Orchard Road to explore the most famous shopping district in Singapore. Most of the grandest hotels
and restaurants are found in the district. The districts location is
east of the Dhoby Ghaut and West to the home of Singapore's President,
called the Istana.
Tanglin area in the west, is the home of many nations'
embassies and Singapore's Botanic Garden. The Orchard Road shopping
district is an one-way street lined with lush and beautiful foliage.
In the 19th century, the district had many kinds of nutmeg, pepper and
fruit plantations all over its surroundings and gained its name from
such.
In the 1970's the mall appeared on the Orchard Road District as well
as Orchard MRT. The Orchard Multi Rail Transit is an extensive network
of underground passageways linings the malls, for patrons to escape
the elements.
During the Holiday seasons, Orchard Road is consumed by shoppers and
the district offers an amazing Christmas Light Up event at the end
of the year. To add to the many celebrations is the Chingay Parade of
Dreams. The parade is a celebration of the Chinese New Year and offers
many colourful and interesting floats, and attractions, to bring the
masses.
Some of the malls located in the Orchard Road district are Wheelock
Place, Ngee Ann City, Tang Plaza Lucky Plaza and Plaza Singapura. The
Wheelock place is a 2 floor mall that contains store like Marks &
Spencer, Olio Dome restaurant and the 2nd largest US book chain,
Borders.
In the Wisma Atria mall, offers Japanese boutiques like Isetan and
Anteprima. For more of the UK fashions, the mall has The Top Shop and
Warehouse. The Ngee Ann City mall is a massive centre which takes days
to gaze and shop all the stores.
Ngee Ann City Mall has received the Tourisms 2002 award for best
shopping experience and houses Takashimaya and over 100 specialty
stores. Takashimaya might be the largest Japanese chain store, but the
other 100 stores offer sporting goods, stationary, jewellery and
clothes, from excellent designers.
The shops in the Ngee Ann City mall have brands Like Guess USA, Hugo
Boss, Spain's Zara and Mango fashion labels, as well as Australia's
Country Road. Not only is the shopping spectacular, so is the
restaurants. The mall contains Harrods's Tea room and many more famous
eateries.
Inside the Kinokuniya, the largest bookstore in Southeast Asia, anyone
can enjoy their favourite readings in peace. For the more adventurous,
a fully facilitated sports centre and arts gallery are available for
patrons.
The young and young at heart like to go to the Far East Plaza. This
mall offers all the newest fashions, outrageous shoes, precious gems,
eye wear and electronics. On the level one of the Far East Mall is the
best arrays of everything for everyone.
In the Tangs Mall at Orchard Road, The have been supplying the public
with quality merchandise for great prices, since 1932. The mall is 5
floors high and offers a wide array of products from household goods
to cosmetics and electronics. All of the silk and batik outfits are
particularly popular with visitors searching for gifts to take home.
Joining the Club of malls is the Plaza Singapura, it is the first
multi-floored shopping mall built in Singapore. Many tourists and
residents have flocked to its stores since 1974.
